Strategic Alliance with New Zealand Technology Group Benefits Gisborne Business Community

18 May 2016

In April 2006, Tim von Pein started Strategic IT in the sunny East Coast town of Gisborne, offering IT support to the local SMB and SOHO business community.

Gisborne is definitely one of the country’s more attractive cities when it comes to lifestyle. Its active way of life is supported by many local businesses, and it has become very attractive to many professionals wanting to take advantage of the envious work-life balance. And as business grows, so too does the challenge to support its IT needs.

Making sure that Strategic IT’s customers are happy is important to Tim. He knows how crucial it is for them to be able to focus on their business without having to be concerned about any IT issues that chew up their valuable time.

As their long term clients grew, so did his concern that Strategic IT might not be able to scale with them. So Tim began his search for an upstream resource that could enable Strategic IT to continue to service their clients’ needs in a rapidly changing environment.

Tim’s search ended when he was put in touch with New Zealand Technology Group.

General Manger Regions, Wayne Baird, says “We have a strategy of partnering with awesome companies and Strategic IT certainly fit that well. Tim is a passionate IT professional and has a very strong desire to provide the best service to his clients. The merger with New Zealand Technology Group enhances our presence in the Gisborne area and is a great launching pad for us.”

NZTG is able to offer Strategic IT everything that’s hard to find in the regions of NZ, particularly staff, technology and knowledge resources. Suddenly, Strategic IT is able to offer its customers complete end to end services on a scale that would have been impossible for Tim had he tried on his own.

Wayne is quick to add that the personal relationships that are built in regional New Zealand are the key to local success. “Having Tim and his team continue to build and grow the business is absolutely one of the main success factors. We respect the importance of keeping that regional presence and won’t be changing that part of what Strategic IT do so very well”

“With what’s available out there now via the Cloud, small IT firms are not going to be able to survive in the near future,” says Tim. “Now I can offer my customers a far greater scope of services and expertise on a much larger infrastructure.”

What’s also of key importance to Tim is that his customers are now able reap all the benefits of a large IT firm, but are still able to deal directly with him and his team, and continue an uninterrupted relationship that Tim has spent years nurturing.

“This is an incredibly exciting time for us,” says Tim. “We would never have been able to look to the future the way we can now that we are part of New Zealand Technology Group.”

Tim ends with an all too familiar statement from business owners who partner with NZTG: “And now I can have a holiday for the first time in years!”
