Wired for growth

3 Jun 2016

Terry Joines, owner of TJ Electrical, is facing a very promising future after partnering with ICT investment company, New Zealand Technology Group, in late 2015.

A commission to rewire and cable their Auckland building during major renovation work convinced New Zealand Technology Group that Terry had all the attributes of a business owner that the Group readily invests in; skilled, passionate, reliable and customer focused, Terry is the kind of problem solver that forms the backbone of New Zealand Technology Group’s IT and Telecommunications companies.

As testament to the kind of growth that these companies experience with the Group, TJ Electrical has already expanded significantly. Operating under a new moniker, TJ Services now offer a full service construction company as well as supplying the entire suite of sub trades.

“It’s a natural progression,” says Terry. “Customers prefer a one-stop-shop. Normally you’d start with construction before moving onto the sub-trades. TJ Services can remove all the hassle of project management by offering complete office fit outs.”

Working with New Zealand Technology Group to supply the IT and Communications infrastructure and technology, TJ Services offer complete office rebuilds, including all the electrical and data cabling. Essentially you can unplug from your old office and plug straight back in to your new office without experiencing any delays in getting up and running.

“Terry has an entrepreneurial mind and we admired his eye for detail when it came to working with us on our own projects. It made sense to join forces. Being able to offer our clients the ability to have just one organisation to manage an office fit out and move is certainly beneficial and we know there is a real demand for this,” says Dwayne Smith, CFO New Zealand Technology Group.

Moving into construction has opened the doors big time for TJ Services, with many more enquiries coming through since the change.

“It’s about helping each other to grow,” says Terry, talking of his partnership with the Group. “As New Zealand Technology Group grows, so do we. Our exposure to their customers is huge, and we’ve only just touched the top of the pile.”

Of course New Zealand Technology Group’s companies benefit significantly too, with the ability to offer customers a much larger scale rewiring and data cabling service than they were previously equipped to handle.

“It’s good to have the support and knowledge of the Group,” says Terry. “There are a lot of different backgrounds and everybody has their own skills to offer, yet everybody is like minded and there to grow and succeed.”

It’s this pooling of individual talent and ideas that drives the Group’s success, and the inclusion of TJ Services into New Zealand Technology Group is a great example of their lateral strategic thinking.

If you are a passionate and skilled business owner, there is quite possibly an opportunity to become part of NZ’s most forward thinking technology group. Talking with them to see where the common ground might lie for your business is as easy as picking up the phone. Call Dwayne Smith or Wayne Baird on 09 448 1250 and start the conversation.
